🔹 Requirements

  • German citizenship and main residence in Germany
  • Age bracket: under 24 years – valid for 6 years; from 24 years – valid for 10 years

  • Biometric passport photo
  • Identity card or passport (if available)
  • For under 16 years: person + parents with custody
  • Registration certificate or proof of accommodation provider
  • PIN letter for eID – is created upon delivery of the ID card

🕓 Duration & processing effort

  • Processing time: approx. 2–4 weeks, during holiday periods up to 8 weeks
  • Fee: Standard 37 €, Youth 22.80 €
  • Provisional ID possible in case of urgent need (max. 3 months)

📌 Step-by-step process

  1. Go to your city's path (see above)
  2. Book an appointment or visit in person
  3. Bring documents + passport photo
  4. Apply for an ID card and have the PIN letter activated
  5. After processing time, collect your ID card + PIN

ID card with eID chip can be used for online services (student loan, certificate of good conduct, etc.) – PIN can be activated on site or via app
